Networks

The backbone of any installation
Every smart home relies on one thing more than anything else: a rock-solid network.
It doesn’t matter how good the installation is, how beautiful the speakers sound, or how seamless the automation feels — if the network isn’t right, nothing else works properly.

At S3, we design and install professional-grade networks using Ubiquiti UniFi hardware.
It’s stable, secure, scalable and built for the connected homes we install every day.

Why the Network Matters

1. Wi-Fi That Works Everywhere

No dead spots.
No buffering.
No “Wi-Fi not available” warnings.

We design networks that deliver full-coverage, consistent Wi-Fi across the entire home, including outbuildings, gardens and basements.

2. Seamless Roaming Between Access Points

With UniFi access points correctly configured, devices roam between them automatically.
Walk from the kitchen to the home office, then out to the garden — your phone, tablet or laptop stays connected without dropping or reconnecting.
This is something most ISP routers (BT Home Hub, Sky Hub, Virgin Media, etc.) simply cannot do reliably.

3. Stability for All Smart Home Systems

Lighting control, NHM, Sonos, CCTV, door entry, video distribution — they all rely on stable networking.
Unreliable Wi-Fi is the number one cause of “smart home issues”.
A well-engineered network removes that problem entirely.

4. Guest Networks

A guest network gives visitors access to Wi-Fi without exposing the network devices
Guests can connect freely while keeping your home private. This keeps the home secure without adding hassle for the owner.

Our Preferred Hardware – Ubiquiti UniFi

We use UniFi because it offers exceptional stability and monitoring without the cost of traditional enterprise systems.
A typical UniFi network can include:
  • UniFi Dream Machine / UDM Pro
  • Managed PoE switches
  • Ceiling-mounted access points
  • Outdoor access points
  • Cloud controllers for remote diagnostics
  • Rackmount UPS for power protection
Everything works together as one system, with clean centralised management.

AV Over IP

Some homes use AV over IP for video distribution requiring

  • dedicated managed switches
  • IGMP snooping
  • multicast optimisation
  • VLAN separation
  • QoS prioritisation

We engineer networks specifically to support Bluestream, Nice AV, CCTV systems, video door entry, and any heavy AV load.
Standard home networking gear simply can’t do this.

Why Not Use Your ISP Router? (BT, Sky, Virgin…)

Because they are not designed for:

  • whole-home Wi-Fi
  • multi-AP roaming
  • smart-home demands
  • AV traffic
  • CCTV loads
  • multiple subnets or VLANs
  • remote diagnostics
  • reliability under load

They’re fine for browsing the web.
They’re not fine for a modern smart home.

Remote Monitoring & Support

Because UniFi offers secure cloud management, we can:
  • reboot access points
  • diagnose faults
  • optimise roaming
  • check CCTV bandwidth
  • adjust switch behaviour
  • monitor uptime
…without needing a site visit.
This keeps systems running smoothly and reduces downtime.

Why S3?

  • Electrical + networking + automation expertise combined
  • Clean rack builds and structured cabling
  • Professional UniFi configuration
  • AV-aware switch setup
  • Real client support — not a helpdesk
  • Networks designed around your home, not off-the-shelf presets

A stable network means a stable home.
We make sure you get both.
