Home Cinema & Media Rooms
A proper home cinema is built, not bought.
It’s an engineered space where sound, light and comfort are all tuned to work together, giving you the kind of immersive experience that makes streaming or film nights genuinely cinematic.
At S3, we design and deliver high-performance home cinemas and media rooms across Shropshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Mid Wales.
Each one is planned to suit the property, the family using it, and the performance standard we’re aiming for.
What We Do
We can handle everything from concept to completion:
• Acoustic design and room layout
• Projectors, displays and surround sound
• Lighting design and control (Rako and Nice Home Management)
• Seating and sightline planning
• Cabling, racks and structured wiring
• Calibration, commissioning and aftercare
Whether you want a dedicated cinema that performs to reference level or a multi-purpose media room that blends in with the rest of the home, we build it properly — engineered, documented and tuned.
RP22 – What It Actually Means
When we say we design to CEDIA RP22, it’s not sales jargon.
RP22 is the design recommendation for home cinemas. A technical guide used by professional installers to make sure a room performs to a measurable, repeatable level.
In simple terms, it defines:
• where speakers should go and how loud they should be,
• how far you should sit from the screen,
• how bright and contrast-balanced the image should be, and
• how the room itself should sound — no echoes, no boom, just clean, accurate audio.
We don’t have to meet every RP22 target on every job, but we use it as the design baseline.
When the space and budget allows — particularly in dedicated cinema rooms — we aim for full compliance at an RP22 level that suits the job.
For mixed-use media rooms, we adapt those principles intelligently so you still get balanced, high-quality performance without over-engineering the space.

Collaboration with Tom Dellicompagni
We often collaborate with Tom Dellicompagni, a long-time colleague and specialist cinema designer based in Staffordshire.
Tom’s experience in acoustic design and theatre construction complements our electrical and integration background perfectly.
When required, he works alongside us on detailed layouts, acoustic treatments and speaker calibration to ensure the end result meets the standard it should.
It’s an honest, hands-on partnership: engineered cinemas built for real homes, not just glossy photos. Tom's cinema showroom is pictured at the top of the page and is available to demo by appointment. This is a space that has to be experienced. The precision and engineering behind it becomes clear as soon as you’re immersed in it.
Dedicated Cinemas vs Media Rooms
• Dedicated Cinemas: purpose-built rooms, fully light-controlled, acoustically treated and tuned for performance.
These are designed from the ground up to meet RP22 reference standards.
• Media Rooms: flexible living spaces that combine great AV performance with everyday usability — hidden speakers, motorised screens, and scene-controlled lighting.
Both are designed and commissioned to the same standard of workmanship and reliability.
Lighting & Control
Lighting is as important as sound.
We integrate Rako lighting control and Nice Home Management for effortless, one-touch control. Control4 is another option through Dellicompagni.
Press Movie Night and the lights fade, blinds close, and the projector starts — every time, without a second thought.
Why S3
• Practical, real-world cinema design built on RP22 principles.
• Collaboration with specialist designer Tom Dellicompagni for dedicated theatres.
• Clean integration with Rako and NHM systems.
• Proper cabling, rack builds, and aftercare — no shortcuts.
From first sketches to final calibration, we design and deliver rooms that perform properly and look the part — engineered entertainment, built to last. And of course, no engineering degree required to operate any of it. Smart Made Simple.
